Sarah Vaughan. Her nicknamed Sassy, the divine, and also Sailor, she was an American singer, and a leading exponent of the jazz style called bebop.
She won two Grammy Awards; the National Endowment for the Arts awarded her the NEA Jazz Masters Award in 1989. She is Endowed with an alto voice; she has been defined by Scott Yanow as “one of the most amazing voices of the twentieth century”.
